Semantics takes seriously perception, labeling, and language. We sue symbols of language to communicate. It is all we have. Language encourages and demeans. Language holds cultures together around the stories it shares and it’s literature. Semantics of Intelligence is key to understanding our fragmented, fractionalized, multiplicity of theories that direct and drive our educational system in the United States. Semantics delves into the core of our desire as a nation to research and develop our own intelligence that seemingly competes on the world stage with statistics validating us as being legitimately intelligent. Could we consider ourselves of greatness without psychometrically proving our superiority? Moreover there is the matter of race and what cold hard statistics do to keep people in a certain position if we only consider IQ testing and other test measurements. Do these very measurements become a self-fulfilling prophecy that integrates a person’s expectation of them abilities thus changing their scores?
Of Mice and Men is a novel that is an esteemed classic. about the nature of the struggle of the weak in society. How the weak are treated in society is that the true measure of a civil society. Many issues and problems are addressed in this unit that considers morality and spirituality. The pragmatic considerations of psychology/education enhance our appreciation for this novel.
