2008 graduate seminar . . .Details of the fall 2008 graduate seminar, "Agrarian Societies: Culture, Power, History, and Development," are now online. This year the seminar will meet on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 to 5:20 in room 105 at 10 Sachem Street. Instructors for the team-taught seminar are Peter Perdue, History, K. Sivaramakrishnan, Anthropology, and Elisabeth Wood, Political Science. The new syllabus is available now as a PDF file [opens in new window]. Undergraduate course to be offered for first time . . .A course for undergraduates, “Agriculture, Farmers, Food: Foundational Matters,” will be offered for the first time in Fall 2008. The course is cross-listed with political science, anthropology, and the environmental studies major. It will be taught by Program Co-Director, James C. Scott. Resident Postdoctoral Fellows for 20082009 . . .Five postdoctoral fellows and one visiting fellow will be in residence during 20082009. Colloquium for 20082009 . . .The schedule and speakers for the fall term 20082000 Agrarian Studies Colloquium Series, “Hinterlands, Frontiers, Cities, and States: Transactions and Identity,” is now online. The Colloquium will meet on Fridays from 11am1pm in the seminar room of ISPS, 77 Prospect Street, beginning September 12th. As in past years, PDF copies of session papers will be made available for viewing, printing, or downloading one week in advance of a meeting.
