Fareed Zakaria ’86 B.A.

Named Successor Trustee in 2006, Fareed Zakaria is editor of Newsweek International, a columnist for Newsweek, and host of a CNN international affairs program, Fareed Zakaria GPS, which airs worldwide on Sundays. A 1986 alumnus of Yale College, he also earned a Ph.D. from Harvard and has taught international relations and political philosophy at Harvard and Columbia universities. From 1992 to 2000, he was managing editor of Foreign Affairs. He has authored and edited several books, most recently The Post-American World, and before that The Future of Freedom: Illiberal Democracy at Home and Abroad (2003), which was translated into 20 languages. Dr. Zakaria serves on several boards, including the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations. At Yale he serves on the President’s Council on International Activities and has spoken on campus on several occasions.
