Michael A. Peel, B.S., M.B.A.
Michael A. Peel, Vice President for Human Resources and Administration, joined Yale University on October 1, 2008. Mr. Peel is responsible for Yale’s human resource functions including staffing, compensation and benefits, organizational development and learning, labor relations, and diversity. He also oversees a variety of administrative and student support activities.
Before coming to Yale, Mr. Peel was with General Mills as Senior Vice President for Worldwide Human Resources from September 1991 until 2007, when he was named Executive Vice President with responsibility for worldwide human resources, global business services, real estate/facilities, health services, safety, environmental compliance, and travel. Under Mr. Peel’s leadership, General Mills appeared on Fortune’s list of “100 Best Companies to Work For” six times since 1997. Before joining General Mills, Mr. Peel spent fourteen years with PepsiCo, Inc., serving as Senior Vice President for Human Resources for PepsiCo Worldwide Foods (1987-91) and Senior Vice President for Human Resources for the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Group (1984-87).
Mr. Peel received a B.S. in business administration from James Madison University in 1971 and earned an M.B.A. in finance from the Columbia Business School in 1983. He is a member of the board of directors and vice chair of the Human Resources Policy Association, the largest association of Chief Human Resources Officers from major multinational corporations. He is also a member of the board of directors and chair of the Management Development & Compensation Committee of the Select Comfort Corporation, and is on the board of directors and an officer of the Walker Art Center. He served as a member of the President’s University Council Committee on Workplace Diversity at Yale from 2005 to 2007. In 2002 Mr. Peel was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Human Resources; he currently serves as secretary/treasurer on its board of directors.
